My mother had a heart problem and I was told she had hATTR, her previous generation had a member with heart problems but who knows whether any had hATTR since not diagnosed at that time. My mother passed at 80 and I am 82 presently so the age difference is not a factor in my situation. Plavix is one factor that has helped me along with (Vyndamax) tafamidis.

Hi Tee, I also have hATTR Amyloidosis type T60a also called “Donegal Amy”. This type is very common to a small coastal area of Donegal from Rosses, Gweedore and Cloughaneely areas which has also travelled with the descendants and diaspora to UK, USA, Australia. My personal belief, and some medical reports from international Amy experts who visited our areas reckon it also may be connected to the shipwrecked sailors of the Spanish Armada back in 1588. Myself and some other Donegal based patients have formed a patient’s support group on Facebook called Amyloidosis Ireland. Our website has loads of info and can be viewed at Amy.ie
All the best, Paddy Doherty, Gweedore, Co. Donegal

Hereditary transthyretin (hATTR) amyloidosis is indeed a genetic condition that can run in families. Here are some key points from the knowledge base:

- Family History: If you have a family history of hATTR amyloidosis, there's a 50 percent chance of passing the mutated gene to your children.
- Age of Onset: The age of onset can vary widely. Symptoms can begin appearing as young as 20 years old and as late as 80. The median age of onset in the U.S. is 68.1 years.
- Specific Mutations: Certain mutations, like V30M, can show symptoms in 11 percent of people by age 50 and 52 percent by age 80. The T60A mutation often shows symptoms between ages 45 and 78, commonly after age 60.

So, yes, hATTR amyloidosis can run in families, and the age of onset can be younger than 75.
