Does Anyone Have Experience With Thei Vyndamax Being Switched To Vyndaquel?

A MyAmyloidosisTeam Member asked a question 💭
San Antonio, TX

I have ATTRwild type, and been on Vyndamax for about 8 months. My new insurance company will not give prior authorization for Vyndamax, only for vyndaquel. The doctor’s office is working with insurance and with Pfizer. I have one more month of Pfizer assistance program left. I am very compulsive and want this resolved before the last minute.

I just want to know if anyone else has had to move between the two medications? And how did that work for you?

Many hours on the phone and internet and things are looking better. Changing from Vyndamax to vyndaquel, the insurance company’s preferred drug, and using insurance company pharmacy makes everything more reasonable.

It was a Friday afternoon when I learned that my new monthly co pay will be over $5.000 a month! Am hoping the lady I talked with at insurance company didn't know what she was talking about 😱 Will call cardiologist Tuesday - I forgot Monday is a holiday. Good thing the NFL is keeping my mind occupied today!

Sara2 from San Antonio Tx. On Monday I got a letter from my insurance saying as of Dec. 31 they will not pay for my VYNDAMAX. I need to find something else. I called both heart doctors and reported this to them. I now wait to see what they can do for me. I cannot afford the $22,400.00 Plus for this medicine. Good luck to you.

Switching from Vyndamax to Vyndaqel is a concern for many with ATTR wild-type amyloidosis. Both medications contain the same active ingredient, tafamidis, and work by stabilizing TTR proteins to prevent amyloid fibril formation. Here are some key points to consider:

- Active Ingredient: Both Vyndamax and Vyndaqel contain tafamidis, so their mechanism of action is the same.
- Dosage Form: Vyndamax is typically taken as a single 61 mg capsule, while Vyndaqel is taken as four 20 mg capsules daily.
- Insurance and Assistance: It's common for insurance companies to have different coverage policies. Working with your doctor and Pfizer can help navigate these changes.
- Transition: Many patients have successfully transitioned between the two medications without significant issues, but it's important to monitor any changes in symptoms and report them to your healthcare provider.

It's always best to discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider to ensure a smooth transition and continued management of your condition.
