Hi Michael , I weight myself every morning before my shower. I want to stay at 170 to 173 ( same weight I was 54 years ago when I got married ). If I drop under 170 I eat more. This includes porridge for breakfast along with my normal breakfast. I also eat a larger than normal lunch and dinner. Doing this I have been able to maintain my weight. An amyloidosis person also needs to very much limit their salt and watch how much water they drink. Also watch how much fats and oils they eat. I read the labels at the store before I buy, to try to purchase lower salt etc. so far this is working. Example: last week for what ever reason I suddenly dropped about 3 pounds, by this week I’m back at 172.5……. It works if you are conscientious. Jim7

Hi Michael!
I’ve lost about 70 pounds after diagnosis and initial treatment over a two year period. But it’s unclear which medication, or as I suspect, or combination of medications is responsible.
My meds include Vyndamax, Gabapentin, Torsemide, and Midodrine.
I’m on a tightrope with Torsemide. It does reduce water weight but it also leaches potassium. I have had two bouts of kidney stones caused by excessive potassium loss. Not fun.

Fabulous I’m not a fly fisherman I guess I was too lazy to learn. I mostly drift with a jig or troll with spinners with worms. When the water gets too warm I switch to bass fishing with minnows. The photo is one I caught last year. The Niagara River is a bass fisherman’s dream, a bad day if you don’t get a limit
Your picture does look like you’re having a hard time lifting that monster. Keep the faith maybe somehow we’ll get rid of this disease.

Very nice and they eat well too, better than any other freshwater fish. I fished full time as a fly fish guide in Florida before I got sick. Made my living throwing a hook with some feathers tied on, at tarpon, snook, redfish, etc. I fished the flats from the keys to weekie wachie from march thru june chasing the tarpon. There is no comparison to catching a tarpon on a fly rod, especially a big one. You will never be the same and I have seen the best casters and anglers in the world get humbled by this fish. This is not the Boca grande crap with boats bouncing off each other and gigantic reels and broomstick rods. This is 1 man with push pole and 1 angler with fly rod, and a hook with 4 feathers tied on. This is see the school of torpedoes moving along the sand bottom and casting your fly to where you think they will be. Then seein one turn off away from school and inhales your worm right ther in front of you. You watch as the fish turns and dumps 200 yards of line off your drag set at max. Cartwheels and greyhound ing while you pull your guts out. Think I miss it? If you look close at my profile pic you will see me with the biggest tarpon I ever caught on a fly, by myself, which most in the know would say is nearly impossible. That one was shy of 150 on 16lb tippet
