Does Anyone Have Amyloid In There Bones?
My husband’s bone marrow biopsy showed amyloid in his bones. The Hematologist did not go into detail about it, it was his first treatment so I didn’t press the issue. My husband has a learning disability and it is hard for him to process a lot of information at once. I will address it on our next face to face after a few treatments. Just wondered what it means going forward. Thanks!
Hello Mary, a bone marrow biopsy is the test done to confirm the diagnosis of Amyloidosis. So, yes, the amyloidosis would show up in the 'bones'. But, it can be in other areas of the body as well. It is the bad production of proteins in the bone marrow that creates problems as those badly formed proteins are then sent out to the various organs in the body. The bad proteins can then weak havoc on the organs. The havoc is not done all at once. It could take years before various difficulties are experienced. It is very important to firstly know that the bad
proteins are being produced. That's why the bone marrow biopsy is done. If caught early, and the bad production of proteins is stopped, one could be spared a lot of difficulty from failing organs. I would press the Dr for all the information you can get. Also if you don't mind reading, read all the article on this Amyloidosis website. I can answer many of your questions and help you to know what questions to ask when you meet your Dr. again. Best wishes. Carl

My husband just had a bone marrow biopsy on Monday. Still waiting on full results but we understand there was amyloid in his bone marrow. Also i’m his heart. We believe he has ATTR, but still waiting on full results.
Thank you all for your answers. I appreciate all the info❤️
I don't know how common it is for Amyloidosis to be found in a bone marrow but it was found in mine.
