Shirley, yes it can. But with all test, you can have a false negative. It is also important that the pathologist know how to apply the Congo Red stain.
My Al was diagnosed with tissue biopsy, via Congo Red stain. It was then sent to Mayo for typing.

Frances, sorry about your lost. Was amyloidosis the cause of death? As I said my mother had multiple myeloma, finally her heart gave out. My brother passed 3 yrs ago, with Hogdkins, neither were ever tested for amyloidosis. But NOW SInce I was, makes me wonder if genetic. I want to get tested for it.

Amyloidos is hereditary in my family also I lost my mum and brother to the disease so the specialist knew what type to look for when my test was positive they done a nuclear s can to check the damage and also a nerve test I have it in the nerves and heart also had a colonoscopy and it's in my bowel so I know it's there but it's probably in other organs too
