Can Wt ATTR Symptoms Get Worse While Being On Tafamidis?

A MyAmyloidosisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Boston, MA

I'm 59 and was diagnosed with wt ATTR in Dec 2022. Started Tafamidis then but my symptoms (shortness of breath, fatigue, cold fingers and irritability) have gotten worse in the last 3 months. I have no baseline to compare it to so don't know how I would feel if not on Tafamidis. Coincidentally my father was diagnosed at age 79 with wt ATTR and passed 18 months later.

As of Friday, November 22nd, the FDA granted approval to Attruby (Acoramidis) for ATTR-CM. It will take a little while to see if the insurance companies will add the drug to their formularies but you now have a second treatment option. Talk you your doctor to see if it may be a drug you want to switch to.

It's important to monitor your symptoms closely and discuss any changes with your healthcare provider. Tafamidis has been shown to improve neurological function and delay disease progression in hATTR amyloidosis, but individual responses can vary. Here are some key points from my knowledge base:

- Tafamidis Efficacy: Studies have shown that tafamidis can improve quality of life and delay disease progression when taken long-term.
- Symptom Monitoring: Symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, and others should be regularly monitored and reported to your doctor.
- Family History: Given your family history, it's crucial to stay in close contact with your healthcare team to adjust your treatment plan as needed.
