Does Primary Amyloidosis Cause The Sense Of Smell?
Hi Jim. I am in complete remission from AL Amyloidosis after a HDM-SCT which I had over a year ago. To the best of my knowledge it doesn’t cause loss of smell but Covid does. Do you think you could have it?
Primary amyloidosis (AL amyloidosis) can affect the nervous system, which may lead to various symptoms. However, there is no specific mention in my knowledge base that it directly affects the sense of smell. Symptoms related to the nervous system include:
- Pain, numbness, and tingling in the hands, feet, and lower legs

Clair...what is HDM-SCT.? I am new to this and can use all the information I can get before I go to the Dr. This month.
Jim, my sense of taste along with sense of smell were affected by either my AL amyloidosis or the chemotherapy treatments. A year or so later I again have good sense of taste and smell.
