Is Dexamethasone Taken Daily Or Only On The Day Of Chemo?

A MyAmyloidosisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Bay City, MI

Jim had his appt with Dr, then first chemo. He told us about the drugs used, mentioned to take this med first thing in the morning. We weren’t given a prescription for it, so before I call on a weekend I was wondering if anyone could answer for us.

His dosage is 20 mg due to age, the amyloid is in his liver, kidneys & GI tract. His kidney function is ckd3b. He has Neurology appt next week. We thank God he has no heart involvement!

They gave us a calendar and called a perscription into the pharmacy. My spouse will be on a schedule of dexamethasone: four days on then four days off. This schedule starts the day of treatment and goes through the end of December, so far. I wonder why she can't just take hers only on the days of surgery? That sounds like a question I'm going to need to ask at our next visit. 🤔 My thoughts are with you guys today! Hope treatment goes well and you have a pleasant trip to and from treatment! 💗

I looked it up on his portal, they are given on chemo days, only acyclovir at home twice a day. Thanks for the info, makes me feel better.

What is his dosage when he has treatment? If you don't mind me asking, forgive me if you've already shared this but what areas is it affecting? My partner has kidney damage and is at stage 3-4 ckd. So it had damaged her kidneys pretty bad. Thank you so much for your support and information. ❤️
