Why Do You Have To Wait Until Attrwt Goes To The Heart Before Tafamidis Can Be Prescribed If It Can Possibly Stop Misfolding
I have been on Tafamidis (Vyndamax) since March of 21. Yes it is very expensive, but once my cardiologist confirmed by ATTR-CM diagnosis with my insurance (CVS Caremark) they covered it and then Pfizer offers a co-pay program through a group called Opus who covers the rest. It has to ordered through a speciality pharmacy and shipped to patients each month so it is a bit more involved than being able to pick it up at the store. I was at 20% heart function when I was diagnosed and they really put my cardiologist through a lot to get the medication authorized for me. But I do think has worked well. As I understand it, other medications such as Entresto, Jardiance, Colanor, etc. work on improving the heart’s function and the Tafamidis keeps the amyloids at bay. I am not sure that is stops their production.
Long comment,, sorry. Hoping all the best for all of you.
I think because it's an expensive drug and the the disease can progress slowly even without the Tafamidis. The heart disease is usually the the most serious, But, it can be in the heart long before you start having any significant symptoms. Once identified by a cardiac PYP scan or other method, your cardiologist may be able to prescribe it. Need to talk to a cardiologist about it.
Thank you Jude for all that information.
I am in the process of getting my Health Insurance to approve Vyndamax. We'll see what happens this week. I'm so afraid they might give us a hard time.
