What Does A Typical Day Look Like For You Living With Amyloidosis?
Retired last week so regimen is new. I’m 73. Off meds one year with relatively normal light chains. Heart recovering. Start with coffee Wordle spelling bee then 1 1/2 hrs of exercise. Cardio and strength. Light breakfast. Then any errands planned, walk with spouse, think what we may cook, or eat out or see friends. Travel to see grandchildren and kids in nyc and Philly. We are in boston. Consider myself lucky to have the opportunity to be alive and able to let my wife kids and friends know how much I love them. That’s my day. Oh and if tired I go up and lie down for awhile.
It mostly depends on how well I sleep. A good night means a good day. Stress effects me and so does hard work (or what I call hard work, I'm 87). I find if I am too busy I get very tired. I can and do walk about 1000 yards every third day and have gradually improved but unfortunately I have had to move house and that packing and moving has made me very tired. I guess that's the conclusion .... if I do nothing I'm fine with a little desire and motivation but I go downhill fast. One last thought, I have no symptoms but it is always with me. Watch your weight and eat right. You still have to live through it and how well you do is up to you. Good luck, welcome to the club. Roy2. Anytime.
One thing I learned was to be my medical advocate. What I thought was "just getting old" was misleading. I kept asking questions of my cardiologist. I have 2 stents. I thought my getting tired more easily, shortness of breath, and occasional dizziness were just normal symptoms of the aging process. (I'm 82) As my Dad died at 73, I suspect he was the source of my inheritance.
An echocardiogram showed a thickening of my heart arteries. A nuclear test and neck catheter confirmed amyloidosis. Now I take Vyndamax and pace myself. Mornings are now not my best times. I'm just "keepin' on keepin' on"!
My spouse (54) just starts 9th week of chemo today. Has good and bad and very bad days still. Can't really plan. Stay close to home. Perpetual nausea and dizziness main issues. However bladder issue curtails outings. Just started vomiting. Have started eating very small amounts more times per day. My digestive system seems to have taken a big hit. My weight gains always turn out to be edema coming back. He tries to remain positive but the contant nausea and dizziness is debilitating. Have been told this should lessen once chemo is over. Here's hoping;-) Thanks for your stories, they are very encouraging. Better days to you all.
Hi I’m Ken Cross I have AL, I have a Valcade shot and Steroids every week. Been doing this for about 3 months. This pass week I have seen Hugh drops in the amount of protein in n my urine, with several others items starting to get into the normal range. My biggest problem is a constant pain in my right leg /hip. Just did a x-ray of the hip itself and everything is okay structurally. So now to figure out why it hurts so much. If I didn’t have the leg pain I would say nothing is wrong, but the leg keeps me from doing a lot of things on certain days.
