A MyAmyloidosisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Columbia, SC

I have been diagnosed with AL amylodosis since Nov. 2022 and have been taking Chemo treatments since then. I have recently been having eye problems ie looks like stys with irritations. Has anyone had any eye problems with AL?

Hi Carl my eye Dr treated me antibiotics and hot compresses. But styes kept coming back. I also used a home remedy. Rubbed with castor oil and hot compresses. Haven’t had any returns. Just had my annual eye appt. Good report.

I had goop in my eyes and my eyelids feel a tiny bit “loose.” Once the chemo ended it is much better. Also, my cataracts are much worse as I was told they would be. I am planning on cataract surgery.

Hi Bertha
I have the CyborD +D treatments - 6 months once a week and now every 2 weeks. I have Stye issues and continue to struggle with dry eye problems. The nurses at the cancer clinic say it is caused by the chemo and that the damage is permanent. I am going to see a dry eye specialist this month so hopefully they will have some treatment ideas? Have you learned any more about this?

Hello, an update on my spouses eye issue. Our Amy specialist was not aware of eye issues related to the chemo my spouse is having. We again went to our eye Dr and got a new drops. At this appoint a slight improvement was noted. Also noted though, was the presence of a small ulcer beginning on the other eye. He also got a referral to a specialist for the continued dry eyes. Fast forward, had another appointment the other day and the first ulcer has disappeared and the second eye ulcer has shrunk to very small. Dr is confident the eye drops and patch are doing the job. Also, has vision has great improved. He actually drove the car that day. He will continue the drops. By the way, he took a 2 week break from chemo as he was really suffering from numerous side effect but alas, after more than a week, we have not noted any real changes. Will see if this next week without chemo sees any lessening of the side effects. Quite a journey this AL- Amyloidosis. Hugs to all;-)
