Has Anyone With AL Amyloidosis Had Stem Cell Transplant? If So, Long Did You Stay In Hospital?
Yes, people with AL amyloidosis have undergone stem cell transplants. After the procedure, patients often need to stay in the hospital for a few weeks to recover. This recovery period is necessary due to the high-dose chemotherapy and the reintroduction of stem cells, which can come with risks and side effects.

I was in the hospital for 20 days. I’ve only been out for a month. The recovery so far has been really slow. I think it’s been worth it because I am in total remission. But I still can’t eat much and have almost 0 energy. It’s improving, but like I said, really slowly.
Thank you, I needed to hear that. I'm still waiting on the consult and I'm hoping I can get it done after the holidays. The past 2 follow ups my oncologist hasn't been happy, so she upped my chemo, that's why I'm looking into the stem cell transplant. 😊
Hi Tracy,
I had a stem cell transplant three and a half years ago. I was in the hospital for about two weeks. This was during COVID so I stayed isolated at home for 100 days. It was well worth it. My light chains have been normal ever since. I get Velcade shots every 2 weeks for maintenance. Most days I feel fine. My heart and kidney doctors say they'll see me in a year. It's a great treatment. Connie
